The most famous gay men’s chorus of them all joins forces with one of the most famous gay writers, Armistead Maupin, for a moving and powerful evening of music and stories. Revisiting Maupin’s seminal homage to San Francisco, Tales of the City, on its 40th anniversary, SFGMC’s spring concert Tales Of Our City: Our Lives, Our Heroes finds Maupin’s appearance anchoring excerpts from two of SFGMC’s most significant commissions — NakedMan, a groundbreaking choral exploration of the AIDS pandemic first performed in 1996, and the popular oratorio I Am Harvey Milk by composer Andrew Lippa (The Addams Family, Big Fish). The jam-packed program also includes a world premiere by transgender composer Mari Esabel Valverde, as well as a new piece by San Francisco Gay Men’s Chorus composer-in-residence James Eakin. The 60-piece Bay Area Rainbow Symphony provides musical accompaniment as this thrilling, eclectic celebration ignites Davies Symphony Hall.
